Jopping

Cause when we're jumping and popping... we're JOPPING! ðŸ¤˜
There were a lot of differing opinions about SuperM's concept when they first debuted - and some fans are still divided on it - but I'm personally totally here for it. I love being able to see so many of SM's powerhouses perform together in one group (and let's face it, seeing Taemin and Jongin in a group together at last is something to be hyped about)!

Since I was so excited for their debut, I kind of went all out for the design.

Yes, you saw that right, that is indeed a tiny painting of Taemin on my nail. I wasn't sure what to paint from the video and that scene really stood out to me, so I challenged myself to recreate it for the design! Fun fact, I almost scrapped that nail because I didn't like how the gradient turned out. I was close to just taking it off any trying something else completely, but my friend Joanne convinced me to just see how it'd go, and I'm so glad she did!

The pinky nail is inspired by the lights around the stage at the end of the music video, and I made it using the waterfall technique which was popular among nail artists a couple years back. I think this was my first time trying the style and I liked how it came out!

Since there were a lot of tech and light elements in the video - such as the coliseum, and streams of light in the desert and on the road - I decided to use that for the ring finger nail. I used the CG armor that appears on Taemin near the beginning of the mv as reference. Thin lines are always a challenge, and these ones especially so. All of the lines on the nail are made with the same blue polish, but the larger ones have more layers of polish to make the appear darker.

The thumb, as usual, is inspired by the group's logo and album cover.

I actually painted two versions of the index nail because I wasn't sure which one worked better with the rest of the design. Version 1 is a road with blue lasers/lights beside it, while Version 2 is the coliseum near the end of the video with neon lights (?) rising out of it.

While the coliseum nail has the same colour scheme as Taemin's silhouette, I felt like the bright blue beside the road tied in better with the ring and pinky nails. I added both versions to the IG post, and though not many people chimed in with their preference, I think that overall V1 looked the best.

If you've been an SM stan for a while, you know that SuperM is far from being the first cross-group supergroup that the company has tried to promote (see: Younique Unit, SM the Performance, SM the Ballad etc.). However, unlike those units which for the most part did not see a second comeback, it seems like SuperM is here to stay with more focused promotion plans and a (significantly) higher budget. Writing this now, a year later, I know that SuperM has released their first full length album and had a lot of promotions together - they seem to be going strong and growing closer as a group, so I'm looking forward to seeing what the future has in store for them.
