Dear My Dear (Shall We?)

EXO's ballad king Chen is back with his second mini album, and I'm back with a design inspired by it!

Like with his first album back in April, I was inspired by the digital album cover for this design. The music video for Shall We was very pretty, but I was just feeling too inspired by the album cover to not paint it. I loved the painting style of it and had a fun time trying to recreate it on my nails.

Even though it probably looks like the easiest part of these nails, I'm particularly proud of the thumb. It was actually really difficult figuring out how to make the clouds look semi-sheer like they do on the album cover. You'd probably be surprised at just how many layers of sheer white polish and acetone went into creating that effect. 

The challenge with the rest of the nails was less to do with figuring out techniques, and more to do with figuring out which colours to use. Even though the city scape looks pretty orange, when you zoom in there's a lot of different colours all coming together to make the final product. As a result, I ended up using a whole 30 (!!) polishes to make this look. I also chose not to topcoat these nails to preserve all the brushstrokes and give the whole thing a more painterly look!

A little belated side note (or early, if you're considering this post to be from October '19), but I'd just like to extend my congratulations and love to Jongdae in light of him becoming a husband and a father! I'm so happy for him and I wish nothing but health and happiness for him and his family. ♥
