Korean Flag

Those of you who follow me on Instagram (@nyanails) already know that I spent three weeks last month in South Korea for a graduation trip with some of my friends! We had a ton of fun there and it was an experience I'm sure none of us will ever forget.
Before heading off on our travels though I painted a few designs inspired by the country to post while I was away! Unfortunately, I had planned to use my 14 hour flight to edit the photos of the designs but got on the plane only to realize that there were no outlets >.< Since my laptop only holds about 3 hours worth of charge I didn't get all of the photos edited on the plane and then didn't really have time to be editing while I on my trip, which is why they're being posted now - after my trip!
The first design that I did for the trip was this one inspired by Korea's flag!

Up and Away

Hey guys!
I've been really busy with final projects and exams this past month but now that this semester is over I have time to update the blog again and get back on top of posting my designs! I did this particular design near the beginning of April.

Mermaid Scales

Is summer really complete until your do an obligatory mermaid nail design?
This year's incarnation is a bit more toned down in terms of studs than last year's, but I'm seriously loving this glitter polish from Starrily!

Catch a Wave

It's been so hot here recently that I'm consistently wishing to be at the beach so I can cool down! Since I can't be at the beach all the time though, I figured I'd bring a bit of the beach to my nails!

Defragmentation

Hey guys! The design I have for you today is one that I've had on my to-do list for a while and I'm super excited that I finally got around to painting it!
This look is inspired by @girlgreybeauty, an awesome lip and makeup artist on Instagram!

Mamegoma

First design of 2016! I know I'm a little late but I think this super adorable Mamegoma design makes up for it!

Shine Like Stars

I think we all need to take a minute to appreciate how gorgeous this necklace that I picked up at a street festival last week is! *-* I knew as I was buying it that I wanted to make a nail design to go with it and voila! Here is the end result!

Siren Song (+Tutorial!)

Summer isn't almost over; school isn't starting soon, what are you talking about?
I'm obviously in denial about the end of summer holidays creeping up faster than I would like, so in retaliation and in a desperate attempt to hold on to the warm weather and stress-free days I did a glittery, gaudy mermaid nail design for you all!

Hoppy Easter (+ Tutorial!)

Please forgive me for the lame title, I'm running low on creativity today and that was the best I could do haha!
Anyways, as promised I have some Easter nails for you today and, as you may have guessed, they feature some cute little bunnies!

NAFW2015 Day 2: Shoes

Day Two of Fashion Week is Shoes!
I may be playing into the stereotype here, but honestly who can deny how fun it is to browse through pages of pretty, gorgeous, and insane shoes?

I did a complete 180 from yesterday's delicate, pretty design and went for something more graphic and colourful!

NAFW2015 Day1: Favourite Fashion Designer

Hey guys!
This week is going to be packed with new nail art because I'm super excited to announce that I'll be participating the first ever Nail Art Fashion Week hosted by @sonailicious, @seizethenail, @manicurator, and @faustgil!

The first challenge is to do a design inspired by your favourite designer. I don't usually follow fashion that closely so I don't really have a favourite designer, but since I've found nail art inspiration from Marc Jacobs in the past (good lord look at how long my nails were) I went back in search of more and was not disappointed!

Warm Wishes

Second winter design! I'm really excited about this one because it's a combination of sweater nails (which I've been meaning to do forever) and tea which are basically my two winter essentials. How is tea involved in this you may ask? Well, after seeing a ton of super cute Tim Horton's holiday cups around campus I picked up a tea for myself so that I could use the cup as reference for a design!

Under the Sea

I can't believe summer is almost over already!
I mean, I have had four months off but it just feels like it went by so quickly. I'm definitely not ready for school to start again! So to take my mind off of the impending school year, I decided to do a really summery, beachy manicure!

A Whale of a Time

Still haven't been feeling very inspired lately so I decided to do a design based off of a notepad I have.

Hot Mess

More cute little summery designs! Woo!
I actually planned on doing this design right after my watermelon nails but it just kept getting pushed back. I finally refused to let it get pushed back any longer and here it is!
It's based off of some pajamas I have from David & Goliath, (it's one of the sets in the picture here).

I think it's a cute twist on all of the different ice cream cones and drip nails out there!

I'm Addicted

I was at Target the other day and they happened to have Essie's new neon collection so obviously I had to get some of them to try.
I'm pretty impressed at how quickly I used them, usually my new purchases end up sitting around for a month before I get inspired for a design. This time around I decided to do a bit of a reprise of my neon tribal design from last summer, though the colour scheme is completely different. I think I've stepped up my tribal designs in the last year, (though I still need to work on my lines...)

But yes, Essie's neons are great as expected, a little thin but I find a lot of their polishes are so that wasn't really a surprise. The colours are awesome and eye-catching, I can't stop looking at my hands! This also gave me an excuse to use Essie's Belugaria again which is always fun!

Product Review: Silver Nail Art Glitter

Hey guys, I'm doing another review today for Born Pretty Store! If you haven't checked Born Pretty out before, they have some great products in their Nail Art section, as well as other, non-nail-art products.
Today I'm reviewing some Silver Nail Art Glitter (#4). I had the most difficult time deciding on a design to do with this glitter since I don't use glitter all that often. I finally settled on a floral design with a glitter accent.

image

The glitter comes in a 1 piece set and you have an option of 4 different sizes of glitter. I'm using the smallest glitter out of the four.

image

image
For the design, I started off with a teal base and then used a dotting tool to make large white flowers and a smaller dotting tool to make the red centers. These are the products I used for the design:

To apply the glitter, I put a layer of top coat on my nail and then dipped it into the little pot. It coated the nail well, and stays in place even without a top coat. I'm sure there's probably an easier way, but I found the glitter application to be kind of messy (not that it was much of a surprise considering it's glitter and that's always a mess). It got all over my fingers and I spent a lot of time trying to get it off (and preferably back into the pot). It did come off relatively easily though, when I gently scraped it off.
One plus of having the pieces of glitter so small though is that it's easy to get a clean line at the base of your nail.

image

I also used the glitter in the center of the flowers which proved to be a lot harder than having the entire nail covered. Since the glitter is so small it's too hard to pick the pieces up and place them individually, but it's also difficult to take multiple pieces of glitter out of the pot and place them nicely.
For this reason I would probably recommend this glitter for larger areas instead of in small little designs.

image

With all that being said, I do love the way the glitter turned out; so sparkly! It's great for a glitter-encrusted accent nail or, if you're feeling up to it, an entire glitter manicure. This glitter sells for $3.89 individually with free worldwide shipping (as is the same for BPS's other products).
Don't forget, you can get 10% off at Born Pretty Store using the coupon code FHX31.

I hope you enjoyed reading!

Becca.
