Barbie Girl

Last summer I was fortunate enough to work with Butter London to make a design using their BUTTERxBARBIE polish duo in celebration of Barbie's 60th anniversary! In honor of the milestone, I based my design on the bathing suit worn by the original Barbie in 1959.

When Butter London first contacted me about participating in this campaign, I wasn't sure what kind of design I wanted to do. To get some inspiration, I spent some time researching the history of Barbie - from the different iterations she's gone through throughout the years, to social impacts of the dolls. While all of the different outfits and makeup looks she's sported over the past six decades were fun to look through, I was most interested in the original Barbie. Since this campaign was celebrating the anniversary I thought it would be the most fun to go all the way back to the beginning. How fortunate that the first outfit worn by Barbie was a two-coloured bathing suit - perfect for turning into a nail design with this polish duo!

A little behind the scenes info from this shoot, I really wanted to wear silver rings to match Diamond Geezer, but the only one that I had was too big and didn't fit the vibe of the design. I made it work though - the "rings" that you see in the pictures are actually some hoop earrings of mine with the clasps hidden behind my finger!

I did a whole IG takeover for the brand to promote this polish duo - something that you can probably still see in their story highlights. I talked a bit about the polishes themselves and made a tutorial in case anyone wanted to try this look out for themselves. It was a really fun time and I'm thankful for the team at Butter London who thought of me for this project!
