Shinin'

When SM first announced that they would be releasing Jonghyun's final album I was a little surprised at how fast it came. It was released just over a month after his passing, and honestly all of the emotions were, and still are, pretty raw. But everything else aside, Jonghyun is a true poet, a true artist, and being able to listen to Shinin' and then entire Poet | Artist album was a gift.

I don't want to make this post too sad because Shinin' really was a classic Jjong bop (it gave me She Is vibes right off the bat), but when I first watched the music video for Shinin' I definitely cried a bit. Those kind of bittersweet tears where I was so happy to see Jjong and hear his song, but also sad for obvious reasons. If I shed a few tears for Shinin', I absolutely sobbed watching the music video for Before Our Spring. Given the amount of tears shed over the past two months, I thought I would definitely cry listening to the full album, bust surprisingly I didn't and was able to just enjoy another beautiful, well-rounded album from Jonghyun.

For this Shinin' design, I knew on my first watch of the music video that the hook, "Always be with you," needed to be incorporated into the design somehow. From there I decided to include the album title and the orange/pink gradient from the album cover.
I included the pearl aqua green moon design after seeing a tweet that declared the pearl aqua moon over Japan back in December to have been a music video teaser from Jjong. The tweet definitely made me smile, and I couldn't not include SHINee's colour somewhere in this design.
After that I decided to include the disco ball nail because it was a recurring theme in the music video and really reflected the shining theme.
The index nail was the last one to be decided upon, but I thought the colours fit well with the middle and ring finger nails, and the audio bars suited Jonghyun well.

I'm posting this design today just after the first day of SHINee's dome tour in Japan. As we've seen over the past month, the decision to continue on with the dome tour as scheduled was a difficult one for the members. Seeing some of the fancams of the event today, it was heartwarming to see the support from J-Shawols, and to see a spot left for Jonghyun on stage. As this tweet so perfectly put it: yesterday, today, tomorrow, SHINee will always be five.

If you're interested in recreating this design or just want to see the process behind it, I filmed a tutorial for it which you can check out below! If you do recreate this design for yourself please remember to credit me and tag your pics with #looknyanails so that I can see them!

Enjoy!
