Secret Garden

This may come as a surprise to most of you since I've never painted a design for them before, but I really like Oh My Girl and was excited to see them come back this January! There were definitely some behind-the-scenes difficulties with this design, but I really wanted to make it work for such a pretty song!

It may not look like it right now, but this was hands down THE most difficult design I've put together in a really long time. No exaggeration, it took Joanne and I three entire evenings of debate trying to put together a cohesive design.
I honestly don't know what it was about the mv that was so difficult to translate into a nail design, but it was definitely a challenge. I think one of the biggest things was probably the two different vibes they had going on: first there was the pastel aesthetic, but then there was also the darker, purple galaxy aesthetic thrown in with it. It made it a bit challenging to balance important design elements and colour scheme at the same time.
One of the biggest breakthroughs to get this design back on track was the decision to put the flower ring on a galaxy background. It's a lot more green in the mv which was kinda throwing off my colour scheme, but the purple pulled the thumb and middle nail together more, and it still balanced with the galaxy design on the index nail.

I liked how the galaxy on the thumb came out (it was super easy to paint and only took like 10 minutes), and I was happy with how well the lettering matched the font from the album cover.
In addition to the thumb I really liked the ring finger nail with the rose. I haven't done roses quite like that before but I thought it really suited the dresses the girls were wearing in the mv. It was also an excuse for me to use some of my pearl studs that I haven't used in forever!

If you're interested in recreating this design or just want to see the process behind it, I filmed a tutorial for it which you can check out below! If you do recreate this design for yourself please remember to credit me and tag your pics with #looknyanails so that I can see them!

Enjoy!
