Not only did we see some awesome solo debuts from EXO in 2019, but we also saw the debut of EXO's second subunit, EXO-SC! The music video for their first single, What a Life, was fun and bright and I tried to capture that feeling in my design.
I'm gonna be honest here. I love Chanyeol, I love Sehun, I love the duo together, but I really was not feeling this album on my first listen. There was just something about it that wasn't my style. After putting it on repeat for a week though, I definitely grew to like it and can confidently say I'm a fan. Borderline was the first song of the bunch that I fell for, but they're all really great!
I watched the music video a lot for this design, and I ended up using a combination of the mv and the album concept for this set. While the album design was um, interesting, it was also really unique and bright. Taking some of the motifs from the music video - like the palm trees along the road and the champagne glasses - and pairing them with the graphic colour blocking from the album contents was really fun and made for a colourful, summery design.
I also decided, in my infinite wisdom, to paint portraits of Chanyeol and Sehun on the middle nail. I'm so happy with how they turned out, but it was definitely a challenge to paint such small, intricate little portraits.
If you want to try this design out for yourself you can check out the tutorial on my Youtube channel below. Please remember to tag me (@nyanails or #looknyanails) on Instagram if you recreate this design so that I can see them!
Enjoy!
