DDU-DU DDU-DU

After a little over a year, Blackpink is finally back with their first mini album SQUARE UP! I've never done a nail design for Blackpink before since their comebacks have always been at inconvenient times (AIIYL came out when I was still in Korea last year), but DDU-DU DDU-DU was actually released at the perfect time for me so I finally got induct them into the ranks of groups that I've made nail designs for!

In true Blackpink fashion the colour scheme here is almost exclusively black and pink except for the silver glitter nail and the white from the chess board.
The first nail that I decided on was the index finger with the cube from the album cover. I was originally going to paint that on the thumb, but then I decided I needed the length of the thumbnail to write "BLACKPINK" so the cube got moved over onto the index finger.
Since the thumb was going to be black, I wanted to black to be the base colour for the pinky nail as well so that it would frame the design and create balance. After watching the mv a few times, I decided to use one of Lisa's outfits as inspiration from that nail, turning her black jacket and glittery hot-pink shorts and boots into the design you see here.

The middle nail is inspired by the set where Jennie is sitting in a throne made to look like the Queen from a game of chess. I flipped back and forth with this one, trying to decide if I wanted to do the pink gradient for the background or if I wanted to make it a bit easier and just back the entire backdrop be a checkerboard. After painting all of the other nails though, I decided that there just wasn't enough pink in the design, so that made the decision for me and I went ahead with the pink gradient. After I painted the nail I was a little worried that the Queen didn't stand out from the pink background as much as I wanted it to, but the contrast is a bit more evident in photos than in real life so that worked in my favour.

As you can see from the collage above, the silver nail is loosely inspired by the silver tank that Jennie rides on during her second rap verse. I wanted to do a glitter placement for this nail, but I only have hex and diamond shaped silver glitter and I didn't think either of those would really work with the look I was going for. Instead I went out and bought a silver glitter polish which worked just as well as was honestly way less work for me.
I also like how the silver kind of breaks up the black/pink colour scheme without getting too off-track. ^^

If you're interested in recreating this design or just want to see the process behind it, I filmed a tutorial for it which you can check out below! If you do recreate this design for yourself please remember to credit me and tag your pics with #looknyanails so that I can see them!

Enjoy!
