Blooming Day

I don't know about anyone else, but I was a little surprised about the general vibe of EXO-CBX's latest comeback. Compared to Hey Mama! and KA-CHING!, Blooming Day is a lot more chill but I was definitely still feeling the album.
The music video for Blooming Day was really pretty and aesthetic, and I wanted to capture that minimalism in this design.

After watching the music video for the first time, I had a few different ideas about what I wanted to do with this design. I knew I wanted to include the key on the pinky finger since it's mentioned a few times in the lyrics and shows up in different scenes in the mv.

I also wanted to include CBX's logo as well as the song title, but I wasn't sure how to showcase those two without making the design too lettering heavy. After staring at the logo for a while, I came up with the idea to combine the logo with the title. I was really pleased with how well it worked out because the "요" conveniently fit in the spots that the holes in the "B" would have taken.

The three other nails were a little more difficult to settle on. I took a bit of creative licence with all of them, and I like how they came out.

The middle nail is my interpretation of the set where Chen is sitting in a chair in the middle of a room filled with flowers. The red/orange line in the middle of the nail represents Chen while the flowers are taken from one of the flower vases near his feet.

I wanted something kind of similar to go with the middle nail and thought the top-view of the set of vials filled with orange liquid would work well. To keep the linear composition I replaced one of the vials with a rose and changed the colour from pink to white to keep the colour scheme consistent.

The last nail was a bit of a toss up: I was deciding between including this design and one based on the scene at 1:11 in the music video. This one ultimately won out though because I wanted to emphasize the orange used in the mv as well as to showcase the teal which was used in the mv but hadn't been represented in the rest of the design.

If you're interested in recreating this design or just want to see the process behind it, I filmed a tutorial for it which you can check out below! If you do recreate this design for yourself please remember to credit me and tag your pics with #looknyanails so that I can see them!

Enjoy!
