Gucci Boy

Originally posted on September 20th, 2019.

The last design in my mini autumn series is inspired by Gucci, and more specifically by Kim Jongin's (EXO's Kai's) all Gucci airport fashion from 190907 ✨🍂

So long story short, I love this look. I love it on Jongin and I love it on my nails. There's just something about it that I find so charming. I'm writing this post over a year after I painted this design, and I'm honestly still not over it - I wish I had it on my nails right now 😂
When I first saw the pics of Jongin at the airport with this look it immediately took a top spot on my favourite-Jongin-looks list. I was still thinking about it while I was looking for fall nail inspo, and even though I don't typically do idol-inspired designs outside of comeback nails, I thought it would fit the theme perfectly!

Shoutout to @_exostyle_ on IG for tracking down all the pieces in this look; their post about this outfit made it way easier for me to go find larger images of the items to use for reference.

To break it down for you, the index and middle nails are inspired by the sweater, the thumb and pinky are inspired by the jeans, and the ring finger nail is inspired by his glasses.

I thought about using the collared shirt for the ring finger nail instead of the glasses, but I thought it might be too many different solid colours. Instead, I went for the glasses because I figured that the negative space would complement the more complex nails.

I was also planning to paint the thumb nail the same argyle pattern at the index/middle nails, until I remembered just how time consuming those intricate patterns are. I'm really glad I switched it out to be another jean nail though, because I LOVE the way the denim turned out. Since the only denim-looking polish I have is pretty dark, I set out use some lighter polishes to make it look more distressed and it turned out even better than I imagined. Since a couple people asked about it, I also made a tutorial for the look, which you can check out below.

I also happened to paint this design right around the time when Kai was announced as Gucci's first ever Korean global ambassador, so belated congratulations to him once again! 🐻
