Kaidentity + Bear Day 2020

Wishing a very happy Bear Day to the one and only Kim Jongin / KAI! 🧸🎉

This is my second year in a row painting a design for Jongin's birthday, so it seems that I've made a new tradition for myself. I have to say, it is fun to do some non-mv inspired kpop designs from time to time, and it's also fun to figure out how to paint new and fresh bear designs each year!

This year I ended up painting a design and a half for Kai's bday - I already had an idea in mind BUT THEN I saw the little bear he drew for his birthday party and I just had to paint it. 🥺
All his little bear drawings are so cute, and this one was no exception (though with the teeth, the hat(?) kinda looks like a beaver imo). 🐻

I didn't want to just leave things at an only-thumb design though, so I still went through with my original idea for his birthday, which was to paint the different characters from Kaidentity!

There was a bit of an identity crisis going on at the time between Jongin and erigoms - some people had different ideas as to what he looked like aside from a bear, and fans made a poll so that everyone could vote on it. With that going on, I thought it would be cute to recreate the alter-egos that @ankokai on Twitter made for the poll.

From pinky to thumb, the alter-egos are: Cherry Maru, Tweety, Bear, Cat, and Beluga.

I put more time into these nails then I'd probably care to admit, but I think they turned out really cute in the end!

I'm writing this post on Dec 31 2020, so it's almost time for Jongin's birthday again - I wonder what kind of bear design I'll come up with this time!
