2020, Year of the Rat

Originally posted on January 25th, 2020.

Happy Lunar New Year to everyone who celebrates! ✨🐭🧧 It’s the year of the rat so I made this little guy into the 0’s! 🐀❤️

After scrolling through pages and pages of lunar new year graphics on Google, I decided to make this year's design in the same style as last year's Year of the Pig design. Before this, I usually did my CNY nails with a white base and black numbers/animals, but I really liked how the red/gold combination looked last year.

I did deviate a bit from last year's style though - I added some black back in with the branches to make it a bit more interesting. I like how they stand out a bit more and add a bit more interest to the design!

Looking back at my pictures of this design reminded me that I actually painted another version of this before switching over to this little mouse! The original version was going to have mouse heads as both of the zeros, but after painting the first one I didn't like how it looked so I scrapped it. I actually had five different graphics saved with different ideas about how to approach adding the mouse into this design. The final version that you see here is a combination of two different graphics!

Writing this post now in early January 2021, we're about a month away from the year of the ox, so hopefully you'll look forward to my next new year design as well!
