Daydream

Hey guys! I'm back with another kpop design!
Back in March J-Hope, a member of BTS, released his mixtape "Hope World" and while I didn't have the time to do a design based on it right away, I still wanted to put something together for it because the music video for the promotional track "Daydream" was so fun!

Sorry it took like 500 years to finally get this painted and posted; April has been finals month so I've had a lot going on with final client projects and presentations. It took me over a week to paint this design because I was trying to do it while preparing for like 5 different presentations. I started painting on the 7th, got a bit of it done, painted a bit more on the 9th, and then couldn't get around to working on it again until the 14th. By that point I'd taken so long with it that I actually had to go back and fill in some space near the cuticles because the nails had grown out ðŸ™ˆ
Regardless, the nails got done eventually and I think they turned out pretty well!

When I started planning this design I knew that I wanted to use the "Hope" design on the middle nail for sure, and I also wanted to write "Daydream" on the thumb. I decided to change the colour scheme for the thumb though because honestly, that red on blue combo from the music video hurts my eyes. Instead I used the colours that "hope world" was written in on the album cover which let the words stand out more and ended up matching the rest of the colour scheme better anyways.

I also knew right away that I wanted to do something related to the album cover since it was used as a background in the music video. I decided on the scene on the ring finger because I wanted to get the peace sign into the design.

The other two nails were more of a toss up: they weren't my first ideas, but after talking to Joanne we decided that they would work better overall. My original plan had been to paint the fish from 0:20 on the index finger and the airplane from 3:32 on my pinky finger. The airplane design was the first to be tossed because we decided it didn't match the colour scheme. Instead I decided to double up on designs inspired by the album cover and chose a scene from the bottom right hand corner of the picture because it took the purple, red, blue, and green from the index nail and brought in the orange from the middle nail as well.
The fish got ditched again because of the colour scheme, but also because when I showed it to Joanne she said she didn't even remember a fish being in the mv. So after a few more screenings of the music video I decided on the palm tree because the yellow and green fit in well with the rest of the design.

If you're interested in recreating this design or just want to see the process behind it, I filmed a tutorial for it which you can check out below! If you do recreate this design for yourself please remember to credit me and tag your pics with #looknyanails so that I can see them!

Enjoy!
