Candy

Girl I'm your candy (candy, candy) 🍭c(‘ㅅ’🍬c)

Baekhyun is back with his second mini album, Delight, and I couldn't be more delighted! While the R&B vibes from UN Village are still a personal favourite, I loved Candy's fun and flirty concept and music video.

I wanted to channel that vibe in this design, so I hope you like it!

As much as I loved the music video, it didn't give me much to work for for the design. Instead, I turned to the three versions of the album, and I like to fondly think of this design as being Cinnamon colour scheme with Honey and Mint visuals.

What actually gave me the most inspiration for this design was an interview that Baekhyun did for this album, and the graphics that the editing team added.
I chose a bunch of the stickers (that you can see below) for the index and middle nails.
The logo on the thumbnail is from both the opening of the mv and the albums. The balloon is also from the album contents, specifically the Honey version, and the candy was used as EXO's display pic for IG (writing this so far after the fact, I can't remember if that candy was used anywhere else in the album).

Since the song is called Candy, I wanted to give the design a candy or jelly-like feel. I knew I had a sheer purple polish in my collection and, aiming for that Cinnamon colour scheme, I thought it would be the perfect base for this design. With that idea in my head, I didn't want to stray from that vision.

Unfortunately for me, I had never used that sheer purple before, and it turned out to be the LEAST pigmented polish I think I've ever owned. I was so invested in the design concept though, that I sacrificed an entire day to keep building up layers of polish until it looked how I wanted. I lost track somewhere along the way, but I'm pretty sure you're looking at around 14 thin coats - the polish didn't even look purple until around 10 layers.

I'm glad I stuck with it though, because I think the jelly-like finish really makes the design work, and it contrasts nicely with the balloon accent nail (which was inspired by the Honey album cover).

Speaking of the Honey version of the album, while I was watching the jacket shoot for that version, I noticed that Baekhyun had some stickers on his hand in a couple shots. Having similar stickers myself, I figured I needed to include those in my photoshoot for this design haha

Even with how tedious it was to layer all that polish, this was by far one of my favourite designs of 2020, and even writing this in 2022, it remains a favourite of mine!
