SuperM We Are the Future Tour

Originally posted on February 7th, 2020.

Getting to see SuperM live was kind of a surprise, but I'm so glad I was able to catch them at the Vancouver stop of the North American tour! I've been to both SHINee and EXO concerts before, but never NCT or WayV, so I was excited to see how the show would go. As always, I needed my nails to match the occasion.

I was originally going to write the title of the concert, We Are the Future, across my nails for this design, but then the idea of making SHINee, EXO, NCT, and WayV’s logos popped into my head and I thought that would be a fun way to represent all the members’ main groups! I'm definitely happier with this idea and think it turned out really well!

SHINee has used a couple different logos over the years, so I wasn't sure which was the current official one, but I think this one from 1of1 era seems to be the right one. For EXO I went with their classic hexagon logo, and then (what I believe are) the only current NCT and WayV logos. On the thumb we have SuperM's logo to tie everything together.

When SM first announced the dates for SuperM's We Are the Future tour in North America, I didn't think I would be able to go. There weren't stopping in Toronto, it was too expensive to go down to New York for the show in the fall, and my schedule for the Spring was up in the air.

At the beginning of February, I happened to watch SuperM's Jopping mv and saw that the Vancouver date was coming up soon. On a whim, I checked out what kind of tickets were still available, and to my surprise there were still some reasonably priced resale tickets available. In what is probably my most spontaneous decision to date, I bought tickets on Monday and flew to Vancouver on Wednesday to see SuperM's concert on Thursday.
As reckless as the move may seem, it actually worked out pretty well. I was able to stay in Vancouver for a few days with one of my best friends, catch the SuperM concert, and then continue west to meet up with my parents who were on vacation in Hawaii. I'm extra thankful for that uncharacteristic bout of spontaneity now, as this was a) the last time I saw my friend before COVID hit, b) my last concert before COVID, and c) my last time abroad since COVID. I miss all of those things dearly, so I'm glad I was able to safely experience all of them before lockdown.

The concert itself was really awesome!

I did have a couple of issues though (all self inflicted, and nothing to do with the concert itself). I got the the venue with a bit less time to spare than I normally would have liked (my friend and I got dinner at this AMAZING katsu place beforehand and lost track of time), waited in line to get a lightstick, and then had some issues finding my seat. In all of this, I ended up settling in the wrong seat, losing the batteries for the lightstick, and having to move to a different section. The opening song started just before I found my seat, and not wanting to get in the way of people already in the row, I tried to politely wait in the stairway until the song was over. The security guards weren't particularly pleased with this though, so I ended up awkwardly ducking into a row further up where I didn't have to pass anyone. I was planning on moving to my own seat once the seat's actual owner showed up, but no one ever came so I ended up getting a better view (5th row behind the floor, I think) for the entire show.

EXO is my bias group and Kai is my ult, so getting to see him and Baekhyun perform again was amazing. There really was no topping Confession, Betcha, and UN Village.
Taemin did try his best to do that though, opening the solo performances with Danger and Sayonara Hitori. He really is a true performer.
Not that I was surprised that Taeyong, Ten, Mark, and Lucas were good performers (they are in SM after all), but as it was my first time seeing them live, I was impressed by their stage presence.

It was definitely a fun concert, and I can't wait to see them again when in-person concerts are a thing again!
