Fake Love

Another BTS comeback, another interesting plot-driven music video to try to base a design around. My design planning for this one got pretty intense and almost morphed into a full-on mv analysis, so I feel like a sacrificed the design's colour scheme a bit for relevance to the story line. There are still some connecting threads to the nails though, which I think pull the design together.

To be perfectly honest, the first time I listened to Fake Love I didn't think it was one of BTS' stronger title tracks. It definitely grew on me after listening to it while watching the mv 500 times to plan this design though, (and so did the rest of the album - I listened to it on repeat while editing the tutorial for this design).

This was a bit of a unique design planning-wise for me, because the music video dropped while I was on vacation with my family and my friend-cum-editor Joanne. I usually watch the mv by myself, plan out a design and then send it over to Joanne to look over, but since we were together we were able to watch the mv together and kind of talk out design ideas before anything got sketched out which helped make sure we were on the same page from the get-go.

After watching the mv together we had basically agreed on 4 of the 5 nails, and the last nail - the fire one - was actually discussed as well. Once I got home to sketch things though, I wasn't sure about how the fire would fit with the colour scheme so I added in another nail what was more blue-toned based on the room Jimin is in at 1:33 in the mv.

After sending the sketch off to Joanne, we ended up debating the two nails for like 30 minutes to an hour before she convinced me that the fire nail was the way to go. I'm still a little unsure how I feel about the colour scheme since there's no orange or yellow anywhere else in the design, but I do like that it has more of a direct relation to the story of the music video.

If you're interested in recreating this design or just want to see the process behind it, I filmed a tutorial for it which you can check out below! If you do recreate this design for yourself please remember to credit me and tag your pics with #looknyanails so that I can see them!
