I've been doing designs for Chinese New Year since 2012, and I've taken a similar approach to them most years. This year is no exception, with the year incorporating an animal and going across four of the nails.
This year's inspiration came from this print which I found on Google (click image for source):
To get the kind of brushstroke effect, I used a variation of the dry-brush technique. I painted the centers of the numbers solid black, and then went back around the edges with a veeeery small amount of polish on my brush and dragged it along to get kind of broken lines. For the puppy himself, I first painted a clean outline and then went back around and dabbed small amounts of paint around the perimeter to soften the outline and make it look more like fur.
Hope you all had a lovely CNY!
